I don’t wear makeup often and I don’t have to dress up to go to work, I can work without makeup and without shoes if I want to. I work from home while staying at home with my three year old boy. In between editing, communicating with prospective clients, and current clients, marketing myself on facebook/instagram, trying to update my website, I put on a load of washing, pack the dishwasher and do any other chores that need doing. Then sit back down to my desk, only to have a little person say to me ‘I’m hungry’, get up and get the little person something to eat. Sit back down to the computer to continue with said things and then the washing machine beeps finished, get up and hang out washing. I then send a few emails and continue with editing and my little person asks me to build blocks with him, take time and go and build blocks. Most of the time I don’t have to do afternoon school run as my hubby is usually in the area and he can grab our daughter, and my little guy still has a nap around lunch time. I get about an hour or so of uninterrupted time. This is isn’t a post to have a whinge but just to make you aware, that being a mum/dad/photographer/stay at home parent isn’t just simply about clicking the button! What I can tell you is that I’m grateful to be able to work around my children while doing something that I truly love but next time you say to a photographer ‘all you do is click a button’ maybe just have a think about what else goes on behind the scenes.
